Dog Training: Kumah

Kumah was my first dog to graduate to the second level of our training program.

He rocks at tug, drop it, and quiet time. 🙂

Update: Kumah got adopted, but not before becoming a level 2 graduate! (i.e. sit, down, drop it, crate, out, quiet time, and calm greetings with strangers)

I learned so much training him. Miss you Kumah! Good job!

Last, last, last, and last days of the season!

We got one last spell of Winter a few weeks ago in Northern Michigan. Despite the late season, the snow was just like mid-season.

This final treat brought out all the hardcore/diehard skiers and snowboarders. It was almost as much fun being on the lift watching everyone’s turns then laying them down yourself.

It was such a nice closing to the season. Here’s a couple pictures from my two days at Nub’s Nob plus a few bonus pictures of a spring freeze in East Lansing.

Last Day of the Season

I had a great day riding at Boyne Highlands. Quiet, peaceful, windy, cold… almost no one was out there.

Just a few minutes ago, I realized today was probably my last day riding this season. 😢 The temperature are warm, all around, even up to Ontario. I can’t believe it’s over.

Autonomous 360

The weirdest thing happened late Tuesday night as I snowboarded with my friend Vera at Mt. Holly. I was all hopped up after coming home from Steamboat Springs combined with watching a lot of Olympic snowboarding.

As I carved down a run, I saw a roller and took a lot of speed into it. A thought flashed in my mind of doing a spin off it from my heel side. Before I could fully process the thought (i.e. Is that safe? Should I be doing that? What if I wipe out?) my body had already made the decision and spun itself in the air, sticking the landing.

At the bottom of the run, I excitedly told Vera I had done an unexpected 180 off the roller. She told me, “No, you did a 360!”

I’ve never had this experience before where, honestly, my body overrode my brain and sent it into autopilot, forcing me to do something. It was indescribable.

The rest of the night I popped off rollers, taking airs and remembering my freestyle/16-year-old snowboarding self.

Maybe it’s time to let up on the carves and start focusing on the spins. 🙂 🏂
